Welcome to Nourish Arts! I’m Amanda. I started this blog to write about my personal experiences with the arts. I spent college studying Arts Administration. In high school I organized benefit concerts of musician friends of mine at a local venue. I play a couple instruments and attempt to take up painting about every 6 months. I love supporting artists in any capacity I can, and this blog is intended to be a medium for that.
At NA, you’ll find topics ranging from musical muses and suggestions, art gallery experiences, show/exhibition reviews (those local to me and otherwise), words from other artists and art critics, and lots of photos. I love taking the arts seriously through exploration. (Anything but “Non-applicable”, if you will.) Join me as I explore the arts of the present! I’m happy you’re here.
A little bit about me…
I live in Charlottesville, Virginia and love writing about my town. It’s small, but it has a lot going on art-wise.
I love cats, (like I love cats) but don’t have one. It’s tragic.
I work at a filmmaking center for kids in Charlottesville and it’s pretty fun.
I recently graduated with a degree in Arts Administration and my thesis was way more fun to write than I was expecting. It’s entitled, Exploring the Sacred: Art, Church and Community. I loved my major.
My favorite book of all time is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
My favorite band (can you believe I have a favorite band? No one ever has an answer to this question, but I honestly do) is Punch Brothers. I see Chris Thile in concert every chance I get.
One of my favorite pieces of art is the photograph by Andres Serrano, Piss Christ. I love that it’s controversial and weird and also undeniably beautiful.
On that note…thanks for reading!
